THE FLORIPA FIESTA LOVEBOX WEEKEND

Special treats and surprises are in store as Floripa go all-out during the Lovebox Weekend when we will party non-stop with our very own arena at Lovebox Festival in Victoria Park. Presenting more than 20 diverse musical acts and activities over three days and four nights in two locations, Floripa invites you to enjoy the best that the UK and Brazil have to offer in our weekend festival of tropical fun and frolics.

Thursday 14th June:
CLUB POPOZUDA *** 6pm-1am – at FLORIPA, Shoreditch – £5 after 9pm ***

Kicking things off in the evening, Club Popozuda present their unique blend of global bootyshaking beats with Gato Preto flying in from Germany to perform live their debut UK show. Fusing Afro-Brazilian influences of baile funk-kuduro-moombahton, Gato Preto are considered one of the most exciting electronic dance music acts in Europe and are often compared to Buraka Som Sistema. Flashing Lights, the more well-travelled alter-ego of DJ Khalil of notorious hip hop crew Livin’ Proof, plays your favourite party classics alongside tropical treats. And João Brasil rounds things off with live MPC wizardry in true baile funk style, plus tecnobrega and bootleg mashups for some cheesy tropical fun. The star of Brazilian national TV commercials for orange juice, Nike and and Coca-Cola, João is Fatboy Slim’s fave Brazilian DJ and an inspiration to Madonna (yep, true story). You’ll smile, you’ll dance, you’ll think you’re on a beach in Brazil.

Friday 15th June:

Renowned producer and resident DJ The Bumps plays baile funk, dancehall, juke and more in an eclectic global bass set designed to inspire hip-thrusting and winding low. Also with the vibrant and funky 7-piece Paper Tiger performing live hip hop and breaks and a set from Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45s) playing Latin, Afrobeats and danceable tropical treats.

BATMACUMBA *** 6pm-2am – at FLORIPA, Shoreditch – £5 after 10pm, £10 after 11pm ***

In the evening at Floripa, Batmacumba present spectacular batucada from Eri Okan, a 20-piece percussive ensemble fusing original street culture from London with Afro block rhythms from Brazil plus DJ Cliffy playing badasss sambas, batucadas, classic Rio breaks and some lost Brazilian gems.
