The Home Spun Show presents The Jolly Good Bollywood Band
8pm-1am - Free - Bar and terrace open from 5pm - Restaurant open from 6pm, for bookings call 020 7613 4228.
The Jolly Good Bollywood Band comprises musicians of different nationality and musical background. Founded by Shubha Giri (the man behind Afro Asian Funk outfit Yak Attack). Shubha was brought up on a very unhealthy dose of vintage Bollywood music from an early age which has led him to form The Jolly Good Bollywood Band.
The band takes a musical journey of Bollywood music from the 50s to of late 80s. This is not your typical Bhangra, mix masala and wear a bindi type kind of Bollywood music. The band is immensely influenced by Helen (Queen of the Nautch Girls – see video here) and the songs that were composed for her by music directors such as the great late R D Burman, Laxmikan-Pyarelal and so on. The band also plays rare instrumentals dance floor gems which are often overlooked because of the absence of vocals.
The Home Spun Show
The Home Spun Show are an East London based weekly Podcast dedicated to finding and giving air time to the best music, be it old or new underground or overground, cool or unknown. We present the best in music, new and old and record live bands to go out on the podcast.
Check out our podcast for the best in rebellious rockabilly, sizzlin’ sista soul, naughty calypsoes, saucy salsas, baadaass boogaloo, hot-steppin’ hip hop, gauche garage, post-evil electronics, raunchy rumbas, jumping jazz, prototype punk, infectious blues and good ol’ rock & roll plus much much more…
We cross across styles with a hop, skip, and jump, but always focus on the unusual and on the unmissable.
We believe that the music industry is letting people down by presenting pop music for kids as the best it has to offer. We are here to prove that there is an alternative.
