United Vibrations, a Cosmodelic Afro-Punk band from South-east London, have bought their unique sound together with UK Grime artist, Conrad the Scoundral, to produce their third single, London Bridge.

Written pre-riots, this track has become more and more relevant with time, articulating the frustration felt by many young people in the UK at the moment.

Conrad The Scoundral delivers three potent verses of fire and passion underpinned with his trademark gut busting humour.

2011 has been a turbulent year. Riots, recession and protests have been frequent.

In the midst of the riots in London, United Vibrations were found in the eye of the storm running a community Jam session on the streets of Brixton. With Riot Police racing past and looters roaming the streets, they made a stand for what they believe in.

These young men, thankfully, have found an outlet for their energy through music.

The combination of hectic rhythm and bass, biting brass and ferocious vocals create a sound unlike any other coming out of the UK right now.

They call it 12tone. Its LIVE, its raw and it will make you dance.

The band consists of Wayne Francis (Sax), Ahmad Dayes (Trombone), Kareem Dayes (Bass) and Yussef Dayes (Drums).

UV has supported the legendary Seun Kuti at the Liverpool Music Week 2011 and Zun Zun Egui in Bristol. They have recorded a live Maida Vale session with Gilles Peterson [BBC Radio 1] with additional live sessions at Capital Radio for John Kennedy [XFM] and Jazz Reloaded for Taylor, as well as live performances at The Button Factory and Crane Lane Theatre, as part of The Rhythm Weekender in Ireland, promoted by Choice Cuts, and The Writers Bench at Arenburgschouwburg in Antwerp, Belgium, promoted by Rub Recordings.

SPINNING A UNIQUE BLEND OF FIRING HOT LATIN, HIP HOP, HOUSE, BRASILIAN BEATS, AFRO, REGGAE AND SAMBA MADNESS TO GET YOUR BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND SWINGING! plus one of the best live bands around….

RESONATORS

Resonators established themselves on the UK scene with their self-released debut album in May 2010. The fruit of many months of labour, both in the studio and on the live circuit, the album was excellently received and gained radio support across the UK, Europe and beyond from the likes of Mark Lamarr on BBC Radio 2 and David Rodigan (Kiss FM).

Here’s what reggae guru Rodigan had to say about the record:

“In these days of homogenised, digital recordings lacking in any individual sound or identity it is most encouraging to hear something so truly original… most refreshing”

Since the release of the debut album Resonators have teamed up with London based label WahWah 45s and put out two beautiful 7” heavyweight vinyl singles. ‘Sweet Love Affair’ and ‘Gold Getter’ awarded the band with continued support from Rodigan on both his Kiss FM and BBC Radio 2 shows, as well as from Craig Charles (BBC 6Music) and regular plays across Europe and America.

Resonators live show promises a high energy and uplifting experience, a reminder of reggae’s true place and influence on the dance floor. 2011 has seen the band grace the stage at legendary venues including Brixton Acadmey (supporting Fat Freddy’s Drop!), Koko and the Jazz Cafe, as well as at top festivals – Glastonbury, Outlook and Secret Garden to name a few.

Resonators third single on WahWah 45s, “Surrender”, will be released on April 2nd and is set to further cement the bands reputation as one of the most exciting and highly regarded reggae acts in the UK today.

The band will be celebrating the release of this single at this very special session at Floripa, and copies of the single will be available for sale on the night!

http://resonatorsmusic.co.uk

DUSTY (JAZZ & MILK, GERMANY)

Head honcho at Jazz & Milk Records, and one of the most ambitious freestyle DJs in Germany! Aside from his club night in his hometown of Munich, “Jazz & Milk Breaks” (with international guests, such as Mr. Scruff, Nickodemus and Zero dB) and his productions, he has been running the Jazz & Milk Label for over four years now. He’s been responsible for unleashing a number of killer releases, including his own debut LP “Keep It Raw” and his keen A&R ear translates onto the decks when only the finest latin, hip hop, funk and electronica will do. This man knows how to set a dance floor on fire!

Birthday Party? Bar Mitzvah? Celebrating a new job in IT? or that special 2 month anniverssary of your last kiss? We can help. Tired of trudging around the Shoreditch triangle for a Margarita and then a steak and then a Caipirinha and then a decent DJ? Or jumping on and off trains from Haggerston to Hoxton in search of the perfect meet, getting sepeartated from your friends etc. Floripa is at hand to help. We have happy hour, a full restaurant and mellow music from Brazil and all the other non-BRIC countries until 10.30 then full on Apron wearing, lamp swinging from the man they call Gringo Da Parada…

He’s the Godfather. And he’s French. Kind of. A citizen of Le Monde with a heartbeat of Liberation and the Guardian of all things good musically. Like Mesrine mixed with Robespierre and a dash of Gainsbourg and Socrates, Gringo Da Parada has made his name everywhere from the top of the Sugarloaf to the gutters of Pigalle. Ever seen a DJ in an apron and nothing else play Seu Jorge, Symmetry and The Stranglers.

Come join us and experience the Parada effect. You’ll either be hypnotised, saddle sore or leave early for some suburban night club (and good riddance!). Leave your RihannaGuettaMafia attitude at the door and check in for France’s finest export since Camembert was first hurled across La Manche to Hastings. Vive La France! Vive La Resistance! Vive La Parada Revolution!

You probably know him as the crazy DJ in the apron who plays air guitar with a lamp. But what you may not know about Jerome Pigeon is that he is also a gifted photographer who expresses an endlessly fascinating take on everyday objects with little else but a humble camera phone. Check out his pics in our new Braziliality gallery in Floripa or online at

After a successful year at The Shoreditch cocktail bar, we are very excited that The Jazz Meet collective is embarking on a new Sunday weekly residency at Floripa

In its current incarnation, this weekly live jazz event has proved popular with DJs, musicians and the general public alike and with this move to Floripa the event is sure to develop even further. Starting March 18th 2012, and twice a month thereafter, the Jazz Meet House Band (hosted by Jake Telford (OK-MA) on sax and Jessica Lauren (Freestyle Records) on keys and featuring a rotating cast of London’s brightest session musicians) will again be taking the stage to provide the centrepiece of the night’s live music segment and to supply their own unique brand of live soul jazz. Bi-monthly, on alternate Sundays, the collective welcome some of London’s finest established and up and coming jazz acts onto the stage to highlight the burgeoning talent that exists on London’s underground music scene. Already lined up for the first quarter of guests are Jazzman Records’ newest signing, The Greg Foat Group on March 25th, The Al Scott Trio on April 22nd and Swedish jazz artist Cecilia Stalin on May 6th.

Supporting the bands each and every week will be the resident DJ team of Nik Weston (Mukatsuku Records), Rob Coley (Soul-Identity Music), Sid Ford, Jarred Rice and occasional guest DJs, who will all be dipping into their own collections of vintage vinyl and contemporary modern jazz music to bring you a mix of chilled jazz to relax to and, later on in the evening, dance floor orientated grooves on a jazzy tip.

The event will run from 5pm-12am every Sunday, and each week our head chef Dave Yorkston will be overseeing the creation of a perfect yet alternative Sunday Roast featuring a choice of Picanha (The best Brazilian Beef money can buy!), Free Range Roast Chicken or Vegetarian Nut Roast – and accompanied by a number of tantalising sides including Roasted Sweet Potato, Pao De Queijo Yorkshire Pudding, Corn on the Cob, Seasonal Vegetables and of course The Girl From Ipanema Gravy.

Sunday’s in East London are the new Saturday. Team a visit to the famous Columbia Road flower market, maybe a quick look around Spitalfields, Brick Lane and the secret boutique finds on Redchurch Street – rounded off nicely with good bottle of wine (or a few tasty cocktails!), a Brazilian roast and the finest live jazz this side of the Atlantic. Now doesn’t that sound like a good way to end your week?

“The Golden Girl of Funk is BACK!Finally, after 2 years of touring her debut album, Gizelle Smith is now ready to reveal a first sample of her newly recorded solo material, and it will be strictly limited and available on 7-inch only.

“JONNY”’ is shaped by a variety of influences from the early to mid 70s and kicks into it’s heavy groove after igniting your senses and gracefully accelerating you in, with an urgent, angelic intro.

On the basis, Jonny is made up of a catchy guitar riff, a heavy blend of piano, organ and bass, and a driving combo of percussions and drums. In true Gizelle Smith style, the track is held together with her distinctive horn arrangements, characteristic bvs, topped by a soulful and yearning vocal performance, to produce a track which is hard hitting, enveloping and twisting funk and soul into new shapes.

On the flipside, an extended instrumental version with all elements further exposed will ensure beat-lovers will not feel left out. As long as they move fast and grab a copy.
