We had the weirdest dream the other night. We were in a Brazilian wonderland in the middle of Shoreditch with a giant suspended parrot above our heads and fruit on the walls. We danced to a harpist and a Frenchman, naked except for an apron, played reggae remixes of Nirvana and The Libertines. We sang along from the bottom of my diaphragm to a gospel choir and a man with wild hair on the guitar who sang “You can cal me Al” even though he was called Josh . We looked up and above the stage a beautiful lady gazed wistfully out onto the crowd as she dangled from a giant ‘O’ suspended from the ceiling. Later, who knows how much time had passed, the crowd, unified and intoxicated on music and caipirinhas, punched the air in collective nostalgia to Gary Kemp’s Gold before dancing the night away to more eccentric spins from the aproned one. This whole dream, was it wishful thinking? Was we just fleeing reality like we know we’re liable to do? And it seemed real. It seemed like the Orgasmatron and it seemed like, well, our home. If not Brazil, then a land not too far away. Where all musicians are strong and wise and capable and all the crowd are happy and beloved. I don’t know. Maybe it was London.

Appearing like the bastard lovechild from a menage a trois between Radio 1’s covertastic Live Lounge, Lenny Beige’s bloated Talk of the Town and re-runs of The Tube, The Orgasmatron is the brainchild of producer/ song writer Guy Chambers and Shoreditch club impresario Ross Clarke. Could it be London’s Best Kept Music Secret? We think running as it has at Floripa (formerly Favela Chic) for over 2 years now with guests including William Orbit, Beverly Knight, Paloma Faith, Gary Kemp, Goldie, Katie Melua, Kirsty Almeida, David Arnold, Kaiser Chiefs, The Noisettes, Mark Ronson, Example, Matt Cardle and a whole host of talent from beat boxers to magicians, choirs and tap dancers.

Originally set up by Chambers and Clarke as, ‘a night to which we can invite all our mates,’ The Orgasmatron has swiftly become the club night to be seen at, offering musical experiences that won’t be found anywhere else. Forget The Box, those in the know are revelling in unique performances and the delightfully unexpected here in Shoreditch once a month (last Thursday of the month).

January sees Lois and The Love, The Luck, an Opera Singer called Ekaterina, Guy, Ross  and DJ friend Gringo Da Parada join forces again – and that’s just for starters…
